A taste of France for Tynedale Gymnasts
12/01/2010
Gymnasts and coaches from Tynedale Gymnastics Club travelled to Mitry Mory in Paris before Christmas to take part in the second International Gymnastics Tournament.
The gymnasts, aged between 7 and 15, worked on the asymmetric bars, the floor, beam and vault and competed against six clubs from the Paris region.
As well as taking part in the tournament, the gymnasts and coaches were taking bowling, ice-skating and were given a welcome party at the town hall.
Lois Wright, aged 12 from Wall, Hexham won the overall bronze medal for her age group and nine year old Emily Gill of Rowland’s Gill won the overall silver medal for her age group. Each gymnast was rewarded with a participation medal as a memento of the tournament, along with a goody bag from the Mayor of Mitry Mory.
Head Coach of Tynedale Gymnastics Club, Gayle Crowell says, “Once again, we were given a very warm welcome from our French counterparts. The girls had a great time - for some of them it was their first time away from home, let alone taking part in a competition and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We are already making plans to host a return tournament here in Tynedale.”
The girls Union Jack diamante leotards and tracksuits were sponsored by Reflections Hair & Beauty, along with Quigley Associations of Gateshead and Mr P Rogers.
