NCL Copeland sign up to a new benefits scheme

10/09/2008

The sports centre has formed links with Cumbria District Job Centre and Cumbria Partnership NHS Trust to take part in their Condition Management Programme. The scheme forms part of the new health provision under the government incapacity benefits initiative "pathways to work" which aims to help people back into employment following long term sickness.

The programme is operated and funded by Cumbria District Job Centre and hosted by Cumbria Partnership NHS Trust. Anyone who has suffered from a continuing illness which has prevented them from returning to work can apply to join the scheme through the job centre who will refer them on to the Condition Management Programme. Those people who are eligible can benefit from a three month fitness and swim membership and a free CAL Card giving them access to all facilities at Copeland Swimming Pool and Whitehaven Sports Centre along with further discounts for other local attractions, cafes and restaurants.
